A Map of The Internet...

For the December issue of our School Newspaper, I illustrated a cartoon depiction of the Internet.  The image is quite large, and i've hidden a lot of references and jokes- most placements are well thought out and make sense! Enjoy, see how many references you can find and understand!

The comic at the bottom is by Logan Pendergrass.

[edit] This was posted by my friend on Reddit, and made the front page of r/pics!

The process of drawing the backpage
I started with a pencil drawing, then added black lines, and filled in color. The style is specific for printing, hence the cartoony simplicity! All done in photoshop.

Childrens Book Illustrations

Being the nice person that I am, I agreed to do the illustrations for my friends Children's book, which she is writing for her senior project. All done in watercolor on paper, and there are 4 more panels left to illustrate. I'll post updates when they're finished, but in the meantime, enjoy!

Spin Wave Website Header

A Spin Wave, Artists Impression

All Work done in Blender, finished 10/12/12

Dr. Kozhanov, my research mentor for the internship I did this summer, asked me to make a website header image for his research group's website.  It'll soon be displayed here: http://www.phy-astr.gsu.edu/kozhanov/

This is supposed to be an image abstraction of the magnetic spin wave, with the colors and directions of the helix 'spins' representing the wave itself.  (The faint jets of light represent the direction of the spin).

This was my first time rendering with Blender Cycles, and i was very satisfied with the results it gave!  The image you see here has around 350,000 triangles for each overlay: its made by combining a cycles render of the solid objects, and then a Blender render of the glow and atmospheric effects (sadly, cycles has no support for volumetric lighting at the moment...  for more information on creating volumetric effects with cycles, i would reccommend this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuzDtirK2qk)

3d Character

Is he a Beggar Boy, a Street Arab, or a Pauper?

I don't Know.

I made this character after watching several character modeling tutorials in blender, and decided to put my skills into use.  I originally was going to incorporate this character into a larger scene, but the project was too big, so i was left with just this character here!  It took me a ridiculously long time to complete, from conception to a final-looking model.  He is composed of approximately 1200 triangles, with a 512x512 texture, hair and all.  He is even rigged for animation!

Who is he?

The process of making him took so long that my ideas changed several times during production.  He's supposed to be some sort of young beggar, with dirt stains and ragged clothes...  Oliver twist comes to mind.  If i get more motivation, I might incorporate him into a larger scene or story!

Meanwhile, Read Below for the whole Production Process!

From the little Sketchbook

My friend made me a sketchpad out of a stack of papers from his church.  I won't put everything up, but here are some memorable sketches! All done with pencil, and the paper has words and a grid on the back, so please excuse the poor quality!

Top Left  A jellyfish, at least, that's what its supposed to be.
Top Right  "The Hunchback of Nerd-tre Dame" (My friend came up with the title).
Left  Still life on the windowsill in social studies class.  Pencil sharpeners, a cup with a pencil, and a.... sculpture thing.

Bottom Left  "Stir Fry".  It is what it is....
Bottom Right  I Call this "Teatime" although I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it myself.  Look at it and enjoy!! This one is actually separate from the sketchbook.

Sewer Environment (3D)

(Currently Abandoned)               Programs: Blender, Photoshop

A Grimy Sewer...

I originally was making this environment for an iPhone game,  but the process bogged down when i discovered publishing issues on the platform.  I had a fairly tight polygon and texture size constraint for this environment: the whole scene ended up at around 2k tris when i stopped work, and the camera would only be catching 1k tris per view.  There are two texture sheets in the curent scene, with plans for a third one to use for props: each 512 px squares.  Thoughts/Comments welcome!

Satire on Facebook

This is an illustration for a School Newspaper article.  (2012)

Grace Bill

This was all done with a ball point pen on a 1:1 scale to a bill.  These were made as a form of extra credit for my former to use as extra credit points. All references to real currency are fictional, and are used for comedic purposes.
